Court sentenced woman employee to jail for submitting fake pregnancy documents

An Italian woman named Barbara Ioele tried to cheat the government and make her life easier, but it didn’t work out as planned. She ended up going to jail.

Ioele, who is 50 years old, tricked the government for about 24 years by pretending to have given birth to five children and having 12 miscarriages. She did this to get money from the government for maternity benefits. According to Metro, she received more than Rs 98 lakh in benefits and was even able to take time off work using maternity leave.

Authorities started watching Ioele to see if her claims about giving birth last December were true. They found out that she was lying and pretending to be pregnant. Prosecutors said she used pillows to make it look like she had a baby bump and copied the way pregnant women walk to make her act seem real.

It was also discovered that Ioele stole birth certificates from a hospital in Rome and made fake documents to support her scam. The court was told that nobody had ever seen her kids or their names in any official papers. Ioele’s partner, Davide Pizzinato, also told the police that he knew she was never pregnant.

Even with all the evidence and her partner’s statement, Ioele kept saying that she really did have five children and suffered 12 miscarriages. However, the court didn’t believe her and sentenced her to one year and six months in prison.
