A 34-year-old bank manager was killed after the bike he was riding was knocked down by a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus near Khadki railway station. Police have arrested the 53-year-old driver of the bus.
The victim has been identified as Rohit Kumar (34), a resident of Pimpri who was working as a manager at a public sector bank. The accident took place around 8 pm on July 18 when he was riding his bike. “When Rohit Kumar was near Khadki Railway Station, his bike was hit by an MSRTC bus. He sustained serious injuries in the accident. Preliminary information suggests that when he was conscious after the accident, he asked people to take him to Military Hospital in Khadki. But he succumbed to his injuries later,” said senior inspector Rajendra Sahane, in-charge of Khadki police station.
Later an FIR was registered by Rohit Kumar’s cousin, Alok Singh on Wednesday morning. Police subsequently arrested the MSRTC bus driver, Prakash Kadam (53), a resident of Satara. He has been booked under IPC sections for rash driving and causing death due to negligence. Police have also invoked provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Officials said Rohit Kumar is survived by his wife and a three-year-old son adding that he was posted in the public sector bank at Laxmi Road in Pune
