Know About Ram Nath Kovind

Know About Ram Nath Kovind

Ram Nath Kovind  born on 1 October 1945 . He was married to Savita Kovind on 30th May, 1974. Kovind has a son, Prashant Kumar, who is married, and a daughter Swati. Kovind, a B.Com, LLB from Kanpur University (Uttar Pradesh) has been a very successful lawyer.

After graduating in law from a Kanpur college, Mr. RN Kovind had gone to Delhi to prepare for the civil services examination. He failed to pass it twice but made it in his third attempt. He, however, did not join as he was selected for an allied service instead of IAS .He then thus started practising the law.

Shri Ram Nath Kovind, was Central Government Advocate in Delhi High Court from 1977 to 1979 and Central Government Standing Counsel in Supreme Court from 1980 to 1993. He became Advocate-on-Record of the Supreme Court of India in 1978. Had practiced in Delhi High Court and Supreme Court for about 16 years till 1993. He was enrolled as an Advocate in 1971 with the Bar Council of Delhi.
He was elected to Rajya Sabha from state of Uttar Pradesh during the two terms of 1994-2000 and 2000-2006.

In Parliament, Kovind served as member of several important Parliamentary Committees such as: Parliamentary Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes/Tribes, Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs, Parliamentary Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, Parliamentary Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, Parliamentary Committee on Law and Justice, Chairman of Rajya Sabha House Committee.

On 8 August 2015 the President of India appointed him the Governor of Bihar.
BJP  has announced candidature of Mr. Ram Nath  Kovind  as the NDA candidate for the position of the President of India.

Obviously Mr. Kovind appears to be knowledgeable person, possess good knowledge about the law and the Constitution. No controversy came to light during his entire career either as a politician or as Governor or as practitioner in court.

Present Chief Minister of Bihar Mr. NItish Kumar says about Mr. Kovind as Under
"Kovind has discharged his duties in an unbiased manner as the Bihar Governor. He has worked as per the Constitution and upheld the dignity of the Governor's post. His was an ideal relation with the state government,"

This remarks from a Chief Minister of opposing party has great significance and speaks a lot about  his human relation and his skill to ensure compliance of law and provisions of the Constitution.

Mr. Kovind has served as Member of Board of Management of Dr. B.R Ambedkar University, Lucknow.

Mr. Kovind has also served as a Member of Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata.

Kovind  represented India in the United Nations and addressed United Nations General Assembly in October, 2002.

As a member of Parliament, Mr. Kovind visited Thailand, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Germany, Switzerland, France, United Kingdom and USA on Study Tour.

Kovind is also known as a pioneer in spreading education. During his parliamentary tenure of 12 years, Mr. Kovind emphasized on the development of basic infrastructure for education in rural areas by helping in construction of school buildings in Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand under MPLAD scheme.

As an advocate, Mr. Kovind took a lead in providing free legal aid to weaker sections of society, specially SC/ST women, needy and the poor under the aegis of “Free Legal Aid Society” in Delhi.

More pertinent point about his personality is that he has in his entire career never became part of any controversy . None of opponents of ruling party has any point to oppose his candidature. This quality will prove him fittest for the post and justify his candidature for the top post of the country.

BJP as a whole need to be appreciated that the party has chosen a person who do not hold a political post as of now and has proved his calibre in holding a Constitutional post like that of Governor without raising any controversy with a government in Bihar which is run by a hard core opponent of Mr. Narendra Modi , present Prime Minister  of the country.

I wish him all the best and I hope Mr. Kovind will prove to be most suitable candidate for the post of the president and prove to be an asset. He will use his knowledge and experience about Indian politics ,his wisdom, experience as Parliamentarian, experience in field of law , experience as Governor  and his skill as protector of the Constitution prove helpful not only for Central Government but also in building good image of the country.
