Sometimes, it's difficult to understand the mentality of the persons who are sitting at the key positions . Some decisions / Ideas Or plans which they propose are really paving the way for thinking whether these " Intellectuals" have forgotten the basic principles of commonsense while arriving at such kind of hasty and nasty decisions.
Latest addition to this sphere after November 2016 is " Bank account portability " .........!
Any person with a basic thinking wouldn't have even thought of such irrational ideas. Presently Indian Banks are struggling with so many challenges and suffering from countless deceases like Huge NPAs, dearth of capital, Unscientific Government sponsored schemes , Fierce/ unhealthy competition amongst banks, Over pressure on the work force, Unrealistic targets , Shortage of staff , Government's interference and of course , mergers .... etc etc.

Banks are reeling under tremendous pressure to come out of these kinds of challenges on a routine basis . Adding salt to the wound , our Dy Governor of RBI has given a hint that shortly Bank account portability will be introduced so that a customer can switch over to any Bank of his choice by retaining the same account number. I don't understand what's the rational behind this decision ? As a lay man I have few basic doubts and apprehensions !
1. Is RBI wanting to sowing the seed of fierce competition among the banks in the guise of Customer service and rapid digitalisation ? .
2. Whether any group of customers Or public has demanded for Bank account portability?.
3. When hundreds of circulars and notifications on strict compliance of KYC, are being issued by RBI time and again, how can it ensures KYC compliance if portability is implemented ?
4. Some private banks, FIs and co operative Banks are opening the accounts without adhering to KYC compliance. There's a possibility for fraudsters to open accounts in such FIs and get it shifted to other banks OR vice versa. Accepting bank has to simply allowed and swalloe such portability without any option.
5. Each Bank will have different kinds of account numbers. e.g. 11, 12 14 digits etc. Is it so easy to operate with different digit account numbers in case of BAP ?. Is it not an unnecessary pressure, confusion, waste of time on the technological Dept's.?.
6. Can't RBI foresee that the Bank account portability will adversely fluctuate the business levels of Banks ?
7. Does RBI not have confidence on Banks overall customer service ?
8. Monitoring of accounts and its maintenance will be of hectic tasks !
9. How BAP will help the Banks in increasing their profitability, Business growth and reduce NPAs which are the basic mantra's for any Bank.
So on and so forth..... The concerned authority should stop analyzing the issues in its own manner without allowing the Banks to air its opinion as ultimately the Banks and the poor bankers are the sufferers.
It's high time for all the Banks to take up the matter with the concerned authority to check BAPs impacts at the initial stage itself.
