70% of agricultural households own less than 1 hectare land: Survey

Nearly 70% of the agricultural households in India owned land less than 1 hectare while 0.4% such households possessed more than 10 hectare, according to a survey by the National Sample Survey Office. Among major states, more than 85% of agricultural households in West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar owned land less than a hectare. In contrast, the proportion of such households in Maharashtra and Telengana was 50% and below.
