What is it that 99% of India's people don't know?

Most of us has got a PAN card but we rarely notice what is signifies.

For example, the pan number is ABCKOXXXXN.

1. Out of the first five characters, the first three characters represent the alphabetic series running from AAA to ZZZ

2. The fourth character of PAN represents the status of the PAN holder.

1. "P" stands for Individual

2. "C" stands for Company

3. "H" stands for Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)

4. "A" stands for Association of Persons (AOP)

5. "B" stands for Body of Individuals (BOI)

6. "G" stands for Government Agency

7. "J" stands for Artificial Juridical Person

8. "L" stands for Local Authority

9. "F" standsfor Firm/ Limited Liability Partnership

10. "T" stands for Trust.

3. Fifth character of PAN represents the first character of the PAN holder's last name/surname in case of an individual. In case of non-individual PAN holders fifth character represents the first character of PAN holder's name.

4. Next four characters are sequential numbers running from 0001 to 9999

5. Last character, i.e., the tenth character is an alphabetic check digit
