Dear Comrades,
Two Officers committed Suicide within two weeks.
A Lady Manager hanged herself inside branch.
Another Manager committed suicide for insurance business pressure.
But members are not allowed to speak about the suicide issues even in the whatsapp groups of some officers associations.
All of sudden two letters were allowed to spread in those groups and a trade union leader releases a message.
Creating doubt….it may be a clever play to divert the suicides of two innocent officers?
Why Suicides happens? It is because of unbearable work load, abusing words and threats from executives and silence from officers associations in time of need.
How a Scale 2 can bear the responsibility and pressure of a Scale 3 or Scale 4 branch?
1000s of Scale 3 and Scale 4 branches are still headed by Scale 2 managers.
Categorization of branches is the mandatory Govt norms to be complied by each bank according to the Officers Service Regulation.
Many branches are unbearably under-staffed. Many branches have one or no clerk. Officers are overburdened to discharge the duties of both clerks and officers.
When an officers’ association is able to get the list of members of other associations and canvass their membership through any means, how difficult it is to collect the data on staff strength of the branches?
Still many managers are running the branches without second line.
Still many managers and officers are running the branches with one or no clerks.
Insurance business is forced on the branch managers. It has pushed an officer to take his own life.
What is expected of Officers Associations is not constructing holiday homes, giving cash prize, or creating death relief funds.
Subscription is paid to Officers Associations to protect the interests of officers during their service but not to pay death relief to their family.
Officers Associations should ensure that all the branches are staffed according to the categorization of branches, Mandatory Govt norms and Officers Service regulation.
Officers Associations must question why CVC norms on loan processing are violated by running single officer branches.
Officers Association should ensure that the branches are sufficiently staffed based on number of cash vouchers, number of customers, walking customers, number of customer requests, number of loans , number of deposits, number of NPA customers, business mix etc.
Officers Associations should protect the officers’ community from unbearable pressure on third party insurance products as it is diverting the deposits and loan proceeds of the banks to insurance companies.
Circulars and manuals are not meant for promotion exams but to be followed in the day to day bank operations.
At least the face of the innocent souls should have changed the attitude of officers association leaders.
We cannot be human being if we don’t realize our mistakes at least now..
Stop diverting the matter and do justice for the positions you hold.
Then only those souls will forgive you..
Else you and your family will carry their curse forever..forever..
Comradely,
Sivakumar Duraipandy
