8 Tips to Finish 100 Questions in 1 hour: IBPS-Clerk Prelims

IBPS Clerk is an aptitude based test which tests your mental capabilities in context to your time management skills and analytical abilities all at once.
IBPS Clerk exam is not a difficult exam but what makes it a deal to crack is the time constraint that is associated with it. To master time management in IBPS Clerk, follow the following steps -

1. Familiarize yourself with all types of questions

You must be comfortable with all types of questions expected in the Clerk exam. Familiarizing yourself with all types of questions would aid you in managing the time better. Candidates should ideally acquaint themselves with all types of questions from previous year papers and relevant IBPS Clerk books and mocks. This will help you save time spend on understanding a new type of question in the exam.

2. Scan the Entire paper in one go

Go through the entire paper once and attempt the easier questions first and time consuming or difficult questions later. If you are well prepared then, attempting 65% – 70% questions, that are easy in nature wouldn’t be difficult. And later towards end attempt the difficult questions.

3. Face the exam with a set strategy

Take the actual IBPS Clerk examination with a set strategy. Attempt strategy is individual specific and there is no general rule that is common to all.
Strategy 1 – If English is your strength, then attempt this section first. Then attempt Logical Reasoning and Maths as they are calculation intensive and time consuming sections. If you find yourself weak in English, then this strategy is not for you.

Strategy 2 – Do maximum number of questions first from the subject you are best at. Then attempt questions from the subjects you are second best at and then your 3rd best area and so on. If you follow this strategy, it would help you to score higher and also boost your confidence. For Example, if Maths is your strength, then attempt it first. You will come to know about your strengths, once you start taking the mocks.

4. Begin to Practice Online

You should make it a habit to practice online. If you have tried even a single online IBPS Clerk mock test, you will know that IT IS TOTALLY different from taking a paper pencil test. It becomes tough to go through the whole paper in one go, one is not able to mark important lines in the RCs and the software will seem confusing.
Online tests give you the advantage of detailed performance analysis – something that is not available after giving a paper pencil test. Join a good online IBPS Clerk test series that would help you know your strengths and weaknesses and it will also compare your performance with other aspirants preparing all over the country. A candidate must invest in a good online test series for practice.

5. Complete Reading Comprehension First

In the English section, solve Reading Comprehension part first with a fresh mind. You will fetch 8 – 10 marks straight in the start, if you solve the RC Correctly. After solving RC Questions, now focus on questions like cloze test; fill in the blanks, grammatical error spotting, etc.

6. Don’t stick to 1 question for a long time

It is highly recommended to not stick to a particular question. This will hinder your speed. If you come across a tricky question, only spend as much time on it as you are spending on other questions. If you are trying to solve a tough question from some topic that you are expert in, remember that won’t get you extra marks. Allocate average time to each question and strictly stick to it.

7. Solve grouped questions first and then solve Individual questions

Questions on Data Interpretation, Reading Comprehension, puzzles and Seating Arrangement – which are all grouped or block questions, should be solved first.
Such questions consist of 5-6 questions at a stretch and if you solve such questions you will be able to score 5-6 marks in one go. Not to forget the negative marking linked to every wrong answer.

8.Time Management is an important aspect for any aspirant who is taking the IBPS Clerk Exam. It’s not just about managing time but it’s also about your emotions while attempting the paper. Can you work well under pressure, is a question you should be able to answer before taking the IBPS Clerk Examination. Explore answer to this question by taking IBPS Clerk online test on the changed exam pattern.
