PSU Banks in India issue Over 1,000 Look Out Circulars against Defaulters

 In a significant development that highlights the commitment to combat financial malpractices, six Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) banks in India have collectively issued 1,071 look-out circulars (LOCs) against defaulters over the past five years. Three Employees including Bank Manager arrested in Bank Robbery Case

The Muzaffarpur Police have revealed a theft case at a microfinance company in Sakra market. The police have arrested the bank manager, branch manager, and a bank employee in connection with the theft. The stolen money, as well as the hammer and other materials used in the theft, have been recovered.

According to DSP East-2 Manoj Kumar Singh, the police received information that Rs. 2,09,810 had been stolen from the Satya Microfinance Company in Sakra market. A case was registered at the Sakra police station, and a special team was formed to investigate the matter. The team took action and arrested three individuals, recovering the stolen money from them. The police have also seized the hammer and locks used in the theft.

It has been revealed during the interrogation that the bank employees and manager were involved in the theft. The arrested individuals have been identified as branch manager Sonu Thakur, senior staff Santosh Kumar, and Sujit Kumar. Further investigation revealed that these individuals had embezzled around Rs. 9 lakh in this bank branch. To cover up their actions, they had planned to file an FIR for the theft of Rs. 11 lakh and had even insured the money.

Bank Clerk drank All Out due to harassment from Police

On Sunday, a distressing incident took place in Raebareli involving a girl who worked at a private bank. The girl reportedly drank a harmful substance – AllOut, and accused the police of harassment.

When the girl’s condition deteriorated after consuming All Out, her family promptly admitted her to the district hospital. The doctors at the hospital provided her with first aid but later referred her to Raebareli AIIMS when her condition became critical. This incident occurred in the Shanti Nagar locality of the City Kotwali area.

The girl involved in this incident is named Ruchi Singh, and she is a resident of the same locality. Ruchi works as a clerk in a private bank. A few days before Holi, while Ruchi was driving home from the bank, her Alto car collided with a rickshaw. The rickshaw driver filed a case against Ruchi for the accident.

To investigate the case, Inspector Anil Tomar, who is posted in the City Kotwali, tried to contact Ruchi Singh multiple times to record her statement. Ruchi’s mother, Shobha Singh, stated that the inspector had allegedly threatened Ruchi, saying that she would go to jail if she didn’t provide a statement. Distressed by these alleged threats, Ruchi consumed poison.

CO Sadar Amit Singh confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with this incident. The inspector had been trying to contact Ruchi Singh continuously, but she was not available at the time. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

33 Polling Staff died due to heat stroke during Election

In the aftermath of the final phase of the Lok Sabha Elections in Uttar Pradesh, it has been reported that 33 poll personnel tragically lost their lives due to heat-related illnesses. Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa has instructed all district magistrates to submit a detailed report on the deaths that occurred within their jurisdictions. Additionally, the officials are required to provide autopsy reports for the deceased personnel.

The seventh phase of the general elections took place in 13 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, namely Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Bansgaon (SC), Ghosi, Salempur, Ballia, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Mirzapur, and Robertsganj (SC). For this phase, the Election Commission deployed a total of 1,08,349 poll personnel.

According to reports, the poll personnel who lost their lives included home guards, sanitation workers, and other staff involved in the election process. Tragically, even a voter was reported to have passed away. CEO Rinwa revealed that the voter, Ram Badan Chauhan, died at a polling booth in the Sikandarpur area of the Ballia Lok Sabha constituency. Chauhan collapsed while standing at the booth and was immediately rushed to a nearby health center, where doctors pronounced him dead.

In response to these unfortunate incidents, the Election Commission has ordered that the next of kin of the deceased poll personnel receive compensation of Rs 15 lakh. This compensation aims to provide support to the families affected by the loss.

Additionally, in Lucknow, a member of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) who was stationed at the Ramabai Ambedkar ground to guard the electronic voting machines (EVMs) also passed away. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Upendra Agarwal confirmed the constable’s death. Agarwal mentioned that the site where the constable was stationed provided coolers and other facilities for the personnel on duty. The exact cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.

In response to the heatwave conditions in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting. During the meeting, the Chief Minister urged officials to maintain special vigilance in sensitive areas and ensure arrangements are in place to compensate victims within 24 hours. Adityanath emphasized the importance of special monitoring to prevent loss of human and animal life due to the heatwave. He directed officials to prepare and submit a weekly report to his office.

SBI Bank Manager defrauded by Tour Company

A Lucknow tour company has been accused of swindling Rs 4.25 lakh from Poonam Gautam, a bank manager residing in Izzatnagar, Bareilly. The proprietor of the company allegedly misled Gautam even after the fraudulent transaction took place and later stopped responding to her calls. As a result, Gautam filed a complaint with the Izzatnagar police, leading to the registration of a case against the accused and the initiation of an investigation.

Victim’s Account of the Incident

Poonam Gautam, a bank manager at SBI’s Qutubkhana branch and a resident of Green City Colony near Mini Bypass in Bareilly, shared her account of the events. She stated that her bank provided her with a tour package every four years, and in February, she was approached by Gopal Gupta, the proprietor of a Lucknow tour company, who offered her an attractive tour package.

The tour package, which was finalized for visiting North-East India from 20 to 31 May, required an advance payment of Rs 25,000. Gautam complied and later deposited Rs 2 lakh into Gupta’s account. Subsequently, an additional Rs 1 lakh was handed over to him. On May 11, Gupta provided two tickets to Kolkata but failed to provide a return ticket. When Gautam inquired about the return ticket, Gupta made excuses, further raising suspicions. Eventually, Gupta requested another Rs 1 lakh from Gautam.

Lack of Communication and Cancellation Attempts

The bank manager revealed that a total of Rs 4.25 lakh had been transferred to the accused, after which he ceased communication and stopped answering her calls. Additionally, he failed to provide any vouchers for the tour. Frustrated by the lack of response, Gautam sent a message to cancel the tour. However, the accused did not refund any of the money.

Legal Action Taken

As a result of the accused’s actions, Poonam Gautam lodged an FIR against Gopal Gupta at the Izzatnagar police station. The police have registered the case and initiated an investigation to bring justice to the bank manager who fell victim to the alleged fraud.

Bank employee dies due to heat stroke

In the district of Bachhrawan-Sareni (Raebareli), the scorching heat took a toll on the health of individuals, leading to unfortunate consequences. One such case involved a sales manager of a private bank in the area. Due to the intense heat, his condition deteriorated, eventually leading to his untimely demise on Saturday. The individual, identified as Yash Srivastava (29), was the son of Dinesh Srivastava and hailed from Kanpur Dehat. He worked as a sales manager at HDFC Bank in Bachhrawan town and resided in a rented house nearby.

Shivendra, the brother of the deceased sales manager, provided some insights into the situation. He revealed that his brother’s health deteriorated due to a heat stroke while he was out in the field. On Friday night, Yash had called his brother and expressed his concerns about his deteriorating health. He also informed the bank staff about his condition.

Upon receiving the information, the police quickly arrived at the scene and took custody of the body. Vijendra Sharma, the in-charge of Kotwali, mentioned that the exact cause of the sales manager’s death will only be determined once the post-mortem report is available.

PNB Bank Officers announce protest after 4th June against toxic work culture

In a letter dated 15 May 2024, the All India Punjab National Bank Officers’ Association (AIPNBOA) of Bijnor Circle, Uttar Pradesh, bravely brought forth allegations of harassment and undue pressure on officers by the Circle Office. The letter, penned with utmost concern and urgency, was addressed to the Circle Head of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Bijnor, demanding immediate action to rectify the unsettling situation. However, despite the passage of two weeks, the association’s grievances have remained unresolved, leaving officers disheartened and disillusioned.

Within the letter, a harrowing account of harassment unfolds, highlighting the suspension of an officer as a calculated measure to instill fear and compliance among the staff. Furthermore, the association sheds light on other distressing incidents, such as the forced late attendance of a pregnant branch manager for meetings, the imposition of extended working hours without written orders, and the routine belittlement of employees and borrowers.

An officer from the PNB Bijnor Circle, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed their deep frustration, stating, “The issues raised in the letter continue to linger without resolution. No substantial steps have been taken to address our concerns. It seems that the management and Bijnor Circle officials strive to cultivate an atmosphere of fear, pressuring us to comply with unethical and unprofessional demands
