In a letter dated 15 May 2024, the All India Punjab National Bank Officers’ Association (AIPNBOA) of Bijnor Circle, Uttar Pradesh, bravely brought forth allegations of harassment and undue pressure on officers by the Circle Office. The letter, penned with utmost concern and urgency, was addressed to the Circle Head of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Bijnor, demanding immediate action to rectify the unsettling situation. However, despite the passage of two weeks, the association’s grievances have remained unresolved, leaving officers disheartened and disillusioned.
Within the letter, a harrowing account of harassment unfolds, highlighting the suspension of an officer as a calculated measure to instill fear and compliance among the staff. Furthermore, the association sheds light on other distressing incidents, such as the forced late attendance of a pregnant branch manager for meetings, the imposition of extended working hours without written orders, and the routine belittlement of employees and borrowers.
An officer from the PNB Bijnor Circle, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed their deep frustration, stating, “The issues raised in the letter continue to linger without resolution. No substantial steps have been taken to address our concerns. It seems that the management and Bijnor Circle officials strive to cultivate an atmosphere of fear, pressuring us to comply with unethical and unprofessional demands
In response to the circle office’s inaction, AIPNBOA took further action by writing another letter to the PNB Bijnor Circle Head on 27 May 2024. The association notified the Circle Head of their intention to stage a protest demonstration at the circle office on 04 June 2024, after working hours.
