TEXT OF THE LETTER TO UFBU CONVENER
(Quote): “We have come across widespread media coverage of news that Niti Aayog, the think tank of the Government at Centre, has submitted its proposals on names of the PSBs for privatization to the group of ministers entrusted for the job. Though no name was specified quoting Niti Aayog in the coverage so published, but as some names were reported by the media and it caused great concern for the customers and employees of the banks whose names were speculated upon.
The UFBU meeting held at Kolkata on 22nd March decided to collect 5 crores signatures from people in the Petition to Prime Minister/Speaker of Lok Sabha in opposition to the proposed privatization of PSBs along with other campaign/agitation programme. The meeting further decided that Nationwide Strikes, intermittent strike/strikes, prolonged strikes will be observed as may be warranted looking to developments. Strike call at short notice, will be given, if Government announces any decision on privatisation of banks.
We understand that the mass signature collection and other programme could not be implemented to coveted extent due to another phase of Lockdown. Moreover, we should decide and announce our programme of intermittent/prolonged strikes without any further delay and that has to take place before government proceeds further in line with its budget proposal. Hence, we suggest for holding a UFBU meeting, if necessary on virtual platform, immediately to decide our course of action in advance without waiting for government announcement.” (Unquote)
